If You’re Not Tracking, A Kitten Dies

Tracking your gym workouts is important.

By writing down what you lifted last time and trying to beat it the next time you’re in the gym, you’re using a method called progressive overload.

It is the number one way to get good results from strength training, and it’s how you build high-level strength and muscle.

If you’re not tracking, you’re just guessing.

Not tracking is how you end up spinning your wheels, lifting the same weights for the same number of reps for years on end, without ever getting stronger or building muscle.

It’s very sad.

Using A Paper Workout Log. Like A Caveman.

Printable workout log vs workout log app

Hey. I get it.

Using a pen and paper feels good.

There is definitely something to the physical sensation of jotting something down, making a penciled dent in the physical world.

But, as I outlined in an article comparing paper logs vs. workout log apps (you can NEVER guess which one I, the CEO of a workout log app company, recommend!), there are some neat boons of tracking your workouts using a phone.

For one thing, if you’ve got your phone with you, you’ve got your workout log.

Second, printers never work anyway. (at least mine doesn’t)

Brace Yourself, Feature’s Are Coming

Are you ready?

I’m going to throw a bunch of features and advantages your way, and if you don’t read them, you’ll spend the rest of the day wondering what they were. You’ll live in the darkness, mon frère.

With our free app StrengthLog, you get:

  • Statistics and data analysis. Our workout log app keeps track of all your PRs (personal records), yearly records, and really every set you’ve ever performed. You can see your average weight lifted, your best 1RM, 3RM, 5RM, 10RM (and so on), how many sets you’ve performed per muscle, and more.
  • Exercise instructions. Our workout log has exercise instructions for over 300 exercises, with a video demonstration and a muscle map showing the muscles worked in each exercise.
  • Copy, edit, modify. Got a few workouts you usually cycle through? With our workout app, you can copy any workout you want and either train an identical workout again, or train it with a small modification, such as increasing all reps by one or all weights by a given percentage.
  • Workout routines. Don’t know what to train? We’ve got over a hundred strength training programs in our app, with workout routines specifically for bodybuildingpowerliftingbench pressing, and more.
  • Free workout log, with no ads. Yes, really. Our goal is that the free version of StrengthLog should be the best damn workout log app in the world. Then we have a premium version that is even better. But as our users say, you don’t have to go the premium route if you don’t want to.
